OFCOM 0800 & 08 CHANGE JULY 2015
The cost/minute for the caller when dialling 0800-numbers, call charges from UK Mobiles & UK Landlines calling 0800, 0844, 0870, 0370, 0300, 0345, 0333, 0330 or 0871 or 0906 Virtual Numbers
Cost/minute prices to call 0800 & other 03 or 08 numbers, call charges from UK mobile and UK landlines to dial UK Business Phone Numbers;
0800 Call rates, best 0800 tariff, charge per minute for 0800, 0808, local 03 or 01/02 numbers, national 0800 numbers, low call rate 084 numbers, premium rate 0871 or 09 numbers, revenue generating 08 numbers being 0844 & 0871.
If you think UK mobile charges to call other 08 numbers are too high for no real reason, call your mobile provider & complain. Don't blame the 08 number for the price mobile networks charge you on top of the set rate per minute. Connecting / Calling any 0800 or 0808 number from a UK landline or Mobile is now free post Ofcom July 2015. Previously these calls were expensive at up to only 20p/minute to call an 0800 number from a mobile. This carried on for 30yrs until this 2015 change. Did you know calls to a UK Mobile from a UK landline can still cost the caller up to 30p/minute.
Cost to call any 03 number is the same as if you had called an 01 or 02 landline number even from mobile networks. All UK mobile networks price 03 at same as 01 or 02 too - whilst this call is not free- it is not expensive per minute.
Mobile networks must include all 03 numbers in their minute bundles, so businesses choosing 0333 or 0345 or 0300 numbers will encourage a lot more calls from mobile callers than if you were using an 0845.
0844 charge to call 'low call ' numbers is now up to 7p/min at all times from any landline or mobile, plus the varying network operators charge.
This is aimed at trying to create greater transparency for callers, so callers are clearer on what they are being charged and by whom.
0845 charge to call these numbers will be between 2p/minute up to 5p/minute. 0845 calls from the mobiles generate no revenue yet cost the caller will continue to be more than an 01 or 02 call. Mobiles calling 0845 in a contract will probably pay less still than those on a pay-as-you-go tariff.
We say drop your 0845 today, unless you have shares in Vodafone? It is doing nothing for your business - other than putting your clients off - from calling you.
0844 & 0843 are charged at the same rates so between 2p up to a maximum of 5p at all times from a landline or mobile plus the varying network operators charge.
0800 & 0808 are free of any charge only when called from a UK landline or UK Mobile. 0500 is no longer a Freephone range.
On 1st August 2009 Ofcom addressed 0870 & now the charge/minute to call these numbers has come down for landline callers to usually around the same price to call an 01 or 02 or 03 number on most UK landline networks. Users of 0870 numbers have to pay per minute to receive calls.
0871 numbers & 090 are premium rate numbers so are charged to the landline caller at for 0871/0872 up to 13/minute and up to £1.53 for 090 from a landline or mobile plus the varying network operators charge.
